Why Sanibel Island?

Sanibel is the type of place where once you visit, your next thought is “When can I return?”  It is very easy to get to Sanibel which is also why many visitors return annually.

The sunrises draw you to the beach even if you normally are not an early riser.  As the sun rises, you find yourself rising with it.  Before you know it, you are walking on the beach with a cup of coffee, enjoying the morning.

As you stroll the beach you will meet people from all walks of life and from all over the world.  Some will be shelling, others will be exercising, and others just enjoying a beautiful beach.  Suddenly you will look at your watch and be surprised by how long you have been on the beach.

Sanibel gives you many options on how to spend your day. Ding Darling, beautiful bike trails, golf, kayaking, fishing, SCCF talks & trails, and many boat ride opportunities.  For those who just want to relax and chill, there is plenty of beautiful scenery on the beach.  Our favorite treat is watching the dolphins play in the Gulf.

The pace of life on Sanibel is slow and easy.  There are no high rises and no stop lights.  Bike riders and pedestrians have the right-a-way on the road.  You will find the people (locals and visitors) to be very friendly and to go out of their way to lend a helping hand.

Nightlife on Sanibel includes excellent restaurants, live music, local theater (movies and plays) throughout the year. There is a wide variety of restaurants from seafood to Italian to casual pub food.  No matter what you are hungry for Sanibel has it.  When going out to any restaurant on Sanibel, casual attire is the norm.  If you would rather cook your own meal, it is fun to grab some local seafood or fresh fruit and vegetables from Jerry’s or Bailey’s or the Sanibel Farmers Market (open November-April).  No matter if you go out to eat or cook your own meal, you might not want to be on a diet.

Arthur Frommer has ranked Sanibel Island as his #1 favorite travel destination in the world.  Beating places like Bali and Paris (ranked #2 and #3)!  This award from such a renowned travel expert is not surprising.  Frommer calls Sanibel an “idyllic haven of white-sand beaches, condos whose sea-front apartments are available for weekly rentals, excellent restaurants, good shopping.” Also,  J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, “visited by thousands of birds of every species, who bask in the sun after diving for fish and are one of the great natural sights of wildlife in America.”

Sanibel has a lot to offer to people of all ages. Most visitors love the overall quiet atmosphere of Sanibel because it does not attract the school break party crowds.  It is a beautiful island that makes you want to keep coming back for more.  If you are looking for a place that “has it all” you will love Sanibel.
